The historic city of Boshrouyeh, renowned for its valuable traditional houses, represents one of the significant centers of Iranian architecture. For this reason, it has been called the “City of Four Sofehs.” Over time, these houses have undergone continuous transformations; thus, the absence of a systematic analytical framework for identifying and understanding their spatial organization may result in the loss of the region’s cultural and historical values. This study aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic examination of the interaction between mass and space, with a focus on the spatial qualities generated by these two fundamental elements in Boshrouyeh’s houses. To achieve this, eighteen historical houses from the Safavid period were selected from a total of sixty-three identified houses. The findings reveal that the placement of masses was strongly influenced by climatic conditions and local culture, ensuring comfort in living spaces. Notably, most masses were positioned behind the sofeh (porches), with limited direct access to open courtyards. Furthermore, the results indicate that the sofeh played a decisive role in shaping the arrangement of masses, influencing circulation patterns, spatial repetition, composition, and the overall relationship between mass and space.
