The historical buildings of each region have a tangible connection with the past history of the people of that region and are a testimony to the architectural talent and cultural heritage of the past eras. In the meantime, Mashhad, as a historical and religious city, has always been one of the most crowded cities in Iran, where building industry has flourished. During the Qajar period, architecture in Iran underwent unique changes that were the consequence of the influence of Western culture. The Sohangar house in Mashhad and around the Holy Shrine of Razavi is one of the remaining houses from the late Qajar period and has architectural and decorative features of this period. The current research with a historical approach and a descriptive analytical method based on library sources and field studies is looking for the patterns and components of the architectural and decorative elements in the Sohangar building and its influence from the west. In this regard, wall painting is important in subject and size. The importance of the current research is that the afore-mentioned building has not been evaluated and studied so far.The findings of the research show that the influence of the West has caused the emergence of elements and arrays of fringes in the context of Sohangar houses. But in materials, we still see the benefit of traditional patterns. Generally, it seems Iranians have been loyal to the point where even traces of ancient Iranian wall paintings can be seen.
