Abstract
Timurid period architecture, by drawing upon the architectural traditions of the Ilkhanid and Seljuk periods, achieved a structure whose surviving buildings clearly display these characteristics. This research seeks to understand a part of Khorasan's culture, pay particular attention to the architectural style of the Timurid period and its madrasa architecture, and revive forgotten subjects by introducing Khorasan's culture through Khorasani architecture. The present study aims to understand the architectural style of the Timurid period and its madrasas, and to examine the manifestation of the Timurid architectural style in madrasas, answering the question: What was the style of Timurid architecture, and how are these features manifested in madrasa architecture? This research uses a descriptive-analytical method to answer the questions and achieve its objectives, with the tools being library studies, examination of documents, written records, and historical texts. To understand the architectural style of the Timurid period and its madrasas, the locational, physical, and functional characteristics have been examined, which constitutes a novel aspect of this research compared to other studies. Their spatial, physical, and functional characteristics include construction within Timurid-ruled regions, diversity, haste, evolution in structural engineering, utilization of geometry, monumentalism, proportions, symmetry, balance, advancement in ornamentation, spatial organization, and axial organization. In comparison across periods, Timurid period architecture completes the preceding periods and influences the subsequent ones.
