In the past, these buildings mostly included single buildings such as caravanserai's, chaparrs and water reservoirs. However, in a few areas of Iran, service and welfare buildings have been identified that are composed of several different structures with different uses. These buildings are generally built in areas with unfavorable weather conditions. Such as hot and dry desert or semi-desert areas. One of these identified buildings is Chehel-paye, which is located on the ancient Khorasan-Kerman road. This building complex, which includes a caravanserai, water reservoir, Payab, etc. This complex is located at the southern end of Deihuk section of Tabas county and inside Lut desert. Not much research has been done on this collection so far. Only a brief plan of the caravanserai is drawn and a brief description of the structure is given; But no information has been published about its various other spaces, their function and other cases. However, this complex was of great importance in the study of architectural history due to two reasons for having various structures with various uses and its multi-period construction stages, and it was necessary to pay more attention to it. Accordingly, the main objectives of the present study include reviewing and comparing the works of this collection, identifying their possible use and approximate dating of each of its buildings. The method of the present research is descriptive-analytical and the method of data collection is a combination of field and library studies. In the present study, while identifying the function of all buildings, it was found that the buildings of this complex, from guide bars to reservoirs and caravanserai's, had all service functions, but probably in two or more different time periods from the 10th to the 19th century AD. have been built. از گذشته تاکنون یکی از ملزومات راه‌های بین شهری برای کاروانیان یا مسافران وجود بنا‌های خدماتی و رفاهی با کار‌کرد‌های متفاوت بوده است. این ابنیه در گذشته بیشتر شامل تک‌بنا‌هایی مثل انواع کاروان‌سرا، چاپارخانه و آب‌انبار بودند. اما در معدود مناطقی از سرزمین ایران ابنیه خدماتی و رفاهی شناسایی شده که از چند سازۀ گوناگون با کاربری‌های مختلف، تشکیل شده-اند. این ابنیه عموماً در مناطقی ساخته شده‌اند که شرایط آب و هوایی مساعدی ندارند مانند مناطق گرم و خشک بیابانی یا نیمه‌بیابانی. یکی از این مجموعه بنا‌های شناسایی شده چهل‌پایه است که در مسیر راه باستانی خراسان – کرمان، قرار گرفته است. این مجموعه بنا که شامل کاروان‌سرا، آب‌انبار، پایاب و ... می‌باشد، در انتهای جنوبی بخش دیهوک شهرستان طبس و در داخل کویر لوت قرار گرفته است. در ارتباط با این مجموعه تاکنون پژوهش چندانی صورت نگرفته و تنها به‌صورت اجمالی پلانی از کاروان‌‌سرای آن ترسیم شده و توضیحاتی مختصر در مورد این سازه بیان شده است؛ اما در مورد فضا‌های گوناگون دیگر آن، کارکرد آنها و موارد دیگر، مطالبی منتشر نشده است. در حالی که این مجموعه بنا به دو دلیلِ برخورداری از چند سازۀ گوناگون با کاربری‌های متنوع و مراحل ساخت چند دوره‌ای آن، اهمیت زیادی در مطالعات تاریخ معماری داشته و ضرورت داشت که به آن بیشتر پرداخته شود. بر همین اساس اهداف اصلی پژوهش حاضر شامل بررسی و مقایسه کلی آثار این مجموعه، شناسایی کاربری احتمالی آنها و تاریخ‌گذاری تقریبی هر یک بنا‌های آن است. روش پژوهش حاضر توصیفی – تحلیلی بوده و شیوۀ گردآوری اطلاعات آن ترکیبی از مطالعات میدانی و کتابخانه‌ای است. در پژوهش حاضر ضمن شناسایی کارکرد تمام ابنیه، چنین مشخص گردید که بنا‌های این مجموعه از میل‌های راهنما گرفته تا آب‌انبار و کارو‌ان‌سرا، تماماًکارکرد خدماتی داشته‌اند اما احتمالاً در دو یا چند دورۀ زمانی مختلف از قرن چهارم تاقرن سیزدهم هجری ساخته شده‌اند. https://jgk.imamreza.ac.ir/article_147403_2b6423c1be084b31ad5f76196ec9f9fe.pdf
